Missing Pieces from a LEGO Pick a Brick Order: What to Do
Check whether the rest is still on its way before anything else. LEGO ships Pick a Brick orders separately from other items, and some pieces come from a different warehouse and take weeks longer. If nothing else is coming, contact LEGO with your order number and the element IDs of what's missing.
The rest may still be coming
LEGO's help article on missing all or part of an order says Pick a Brick orders always ship separately from other items, and that orders are sometimes split across several boxes. If your Order Status shows more than one tracking number, there's more than one parcel.
The bigger catch is that online Pick a Brick has two kinds of piece. On LEGO's US site, Bestseller pieces ship from Illinois in about 5 business days, with tracking. Standard pieces ship from Denmark, take up to 28 business days, and can't be tracked. If everything that's "missing" is a Standard piece, it's probably just slow. The Pick a Brick page shows the delivery times for your country.
If it really is missing
- Go through your order line by line and note each missing or wrong piece: its element ID, name and how many.
- Check the bags and box once more. Small pieces hide in the folds.
- Contact LEGO Customer Service with your order number and that list.
For a wrong or damaged item, LEGO's wrong or damaged orders article covers returning it for a refund or getting in touch to exchange it.
Element ID or design ID?
An element ID is one piece in one colour. A design ID is the shape in any colour. The red 2 × 4 brick is element 300121; the black one is 300126; both are design 3001.
LEGO works in element IDs. They're on each piece in Pick a Brick and in the parts list at the back of most modern instruction booklets. Design IDs are what BrickLink and Rebrickable use, and they're often moulded in tiny numbers on the piece itself. A piece can also pick up a new element ID over the years (the white 2 × 4 brick has had at least two), so don't worry if your booklet and Pick a Brick show different numbers for the same brick.
Missing from a new set instead?
That goes through LEGO's missing pieces page: enter the set number, choose the pieces, one request per set. If the piece isn't offered there, LEGO's help article says to contact them with a description of the piece, its element ID and the set number. For a missing bag or lots of pieces, their missing bags article suggests calling, and says they may ask for proof of purchase.
What's covered and whether there's a charge depends on where you live, so go by LEGO's page for your country.
Missing from an older or second-hand set?
LEGO's missing-piece help is written for new sets. For an older set, buy the piece from Pick a Brick if LEGO still makes it, or from BrickLink if it doesn't. If you're not sure what's missing yet, start with working out which pieces are missing.
Where Afolio helps
Afolio's parts checklist (free for every set you track) lists a set's pieces with pictures. Count what you have, filter to what's missing, and on the Mac print the list. Its parts search also accepts element IDs, so you can type the number from the back of an instruction booklet and see exactly which piece and colour it is.
Questions
Why is my LEGO Pick a Brick order incomplete?
Usually because part of it hasn't arrived. Pick a Brick ships separately from other items, and on LEGO's US site Standard pieces take up to 28 business days from Denmark, while Bestseller pieces take about 5. Check your Order Status for a second tracking number before contacting LEGO.
Where do I find a LEGO element ID?
In the parts list at the back of most modern instruction booklets, and on each piece in Pick a Brick. It identifies one piece in one colour, such as 300121 for a red 2 × 4 brick.
Will LEGO replace a piece missing from a new set?
Request it on LEGO's missing pieces page with the set number. If the piece isn't listed there, contact LEGO with its description, element ID and the set number. Coverage and any charge depend on your country.
