Getting Started

Welcome to Afolio — your personal LEGO collection manager for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Track your sets, browse the catalog, manage parts inventories, and organize everything with smart collections.

Your collection stays in sync across all your devices through iCloud, for free — add a set on your iPhone and it's on your Mac a moment later. See iCloud Sync.

These help pages describe the Mac first. Where iPhone and iPad work differently, look for the On iPhone and iPad notes.

First Launch

When you first open Afolio, you'll need to download the LEGO catalog database. This contains data for thousands of sets, parts, and minifigures. The download happens automatically and takes about a minute.

Adding Your First Set

Click All Sets in the Catalog section of the sidebar
Browse or search for a set by name, number, or year
Click on a set to see its details
Click Add to Collection to add it

Your set appears in My Collection → All Sets in the sidebar.

On iPhone and iPad: tap All Sets under Catalog on the home screen (iPhone) or in the sidebar (iPad), tap a set, then tap Add to My Collection. Once it's added, View in Collection takes you straight to your copy.

Quick Tour

The app has three columns:

Sidebar (left) — navigate between your collection, minifigures, and the catalog
List (middle) — browse sets in the selected section
Detail (right) — view and edit the selected set's details

iPhone Home Screen

On iPhone, Afolio opens on a home screen. From top to bottom:

Stats — how many sets, pieces and minifigures you own. On the free tier the set count shows your limit, e.g. “17/25”.
My Collection — tiles for All Sets, Favorites, Wishlist and Minifigures. Trash appears below them when it has something in it.
Parts In Progress — sets whose parts checklist you've started. Tap one to jump back into its checklist, or tap See All.
Recently Added — the last sets you added.
My Minifigures — Loose, Favorites and Wishlist.
Smart Collections — your smart collections, plus New Collection…
Catalog — Recently Added, All Sets, Minifigures, Parts and Theme List.
Tools — Identify Set and Identify a Part.

Tap the gear in the top corner to open Settings (General, Data, and Help).

iPad Sidebar

On iPad, the same sections appear as a sidebar on the left, with your list and the selected item's details beside it. Tap the gear at the top of the sidebar to open Settings. On a narrow iPad window or in Slide Over, Afolio uses the iPhone layout.

Multiple Windows

Use File → New Window (⌘N) to open additional windows. Each window remembers its own sidebar selection, so you can browse the catalog in one window while managing your collection in another.

Identifying a Set or Part

Got a sealed set or loose brick you can't place? Use Tools → Identify a Set (⌘⇧I) or Tools → Identify a Part (⌘⇧P) to narrow the catalog by visible attributes — colour, shape, dimensions, year. On iPhone and iPad, they're under Tools on the home screen or in the sidebar. See Identify a Set or Part for details.

Languages

Afolio is available in English, Danish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. The app follows your device's language settings.

Keyboard Shortcuts

⌘Z / ⌘⇧Z — undo / redo the last change to your collection
⌘N — new window
⌘⌥N — new smart collection
⌘⇧I — Identify a Set
⌘⇧P — Identify a Part
⌘F — focus the search field
⌘E — export collection to CSV
⌘I — import from CSV

These shortcuts are for the Mac. On iPad with a keyboard, ⌘Z undoes the last change.

Tip: Use the search field to quickly find sets by name, set number, or year. Type a year like "2024" to filter by release year.
